This is a great series for reluctant early readers. My 7 year old is a good reader, but she doesn't love to read on her own yet. This series, however, has caught her interest and when she is doing her required 10 minutes of reading at home, she often stays in her room reading longer if she has picked up these books. I'm always on the lookout for books that will capture her attention and these have done it. There doesn't seem to be anything particularly scary in them (although the movies are a bit scary) and she loves the mystery.

Enjoyable reading. Nice 5 book series. Great for kids, not bad for adults.
Spiderwick is good stuff. There was a review about Spiderwick being great for kids but not adults... huh? I read some heavy material, and I thought Spiderwick was fascinating. Light, enjoyable reading for anyone from 7 to 70!

The Spiderwick books read like a journal converted to a story. The stories are short, easy on the eyes and mind, and very entertaining. The vocabularly is not dumbed down too much; there are some challenging words and passages for young readers. Highly recommended for kids starting to broaden their reading skills and kids who enjoy fantasy elements.

This boxed set is a good buy the box, binding, and books are solid and compact; the set will easily fit under a ten inch shelf. The books are small hardcovers with detailed artwork, drawings, and parchment-style paper.

Oh, and if the movie was interesting to you or your kids, the books will be a zillion times more entertaining.
Excellent books with stunning artwork! Really great reading and creative storyline. My only complaint is how short the books are for the price. We read a chapter or 2 every night and are already almosy through the whole set my kid got for Christmas.
Great story! There were definite parallels between the fairy world that what was happening in the actual lives of the kid-protagonist. It got the kids into PJs and into bed. We also created some fan-fiction from the storyline.

There are 5 books and from the looks in it - it's the completed series (despite 2 spin-off books).
The quality of print is very good, the font is large. The illustrations are lovely and also printed well.
The paper sleve is rather thin and easy to fold but it is not a problem as long as books stay inside.
The stories are great and easy-to-read and simple to nonnative-speaker.
Bought this for my son for reading over the summer, he is 11 going into 6th grade. He read the whole series in a few days, he couldn't put it down and he's a really active athletic boy.
My DD (10), who is a picky reader, devoured this series. Lovely fantasy novels full of adventure and gentle, non-scary mystery, this series has just enough mystery and adventure to keep her intrigued, and the wonderful fantasy element spoke to her imagination and kept her reading. A wonderful series for picky or reluctant readers.
